University Admissions under Self-Finance Scheme

The Self-Finance Scheme is open to candidates with an HSSC or equivalent degree (A-Levels) with a limited number of seats in the disciplines of medicine (MBBS), dentistry (BDS), pharmacy (Pharm-D) and Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria

MBBS & BDS:

1. The applicant has physically studied (SSC & HSSC or IGCSE & A Levels) outside Pakistan.

2. Minimum 60% marks in HSSC or its equivalent qualification (in the form of equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) in at least three compulsory subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics / Mathematics.

3. Passed Provincial / Regional Admission Test OR SAT II examination with minimum 550 marks in each of the three subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry and Physics / Mathematics OR Foreign MCAT with the minimum aggregate score of 24.

Pharm.D:

Minimum 60% marks in HSSC or its equivalent qualification (in the form of equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) in at least three compulsory subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics / Mathematics.

Engineering:

1. Minimum 60% marks in HSSC or its equivalent qualification (in the form of equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) in at least three compulsory subjects of English, Chemistry and Physics / Mathematics.

2. Applicants to NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi and UET, Peshawar, must have scored an 800 in SAT-I and 1500 cumulatively in the SAT-II Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

English Language Proficiency:

Valid TOEFL or IELTS with score of 500 or 5.5. (not applicable for those students whose medium of instruction is English at HSSC level).

NOTE:

1. Only "Online Submitted" application forms will be processed by the system for merit list generation.

2. Option / Preference for admission in the Colleges/Universities given in the application form shall be final and will not be changed.

3. After admission, the applicant will not be allowed to change their discipline and to claim exemption of tuition fee and other dues.

Q2: What are the exceptions in terms of eligibility?
Applicants having Punjab Province domicile (Pak origin/dual nationality) are not eligible for MBBS and BDS under this scheme as the Govt. of Punjab has withdrawn the seats of MBBS and BDS from this scheme of HEC. Instead, they may apply for the open-merit seats designated to dual national Pakistanis and Overseas Pakistanis with a registered domicile of Punjab. However, for Engineering and Pharm-D admissions there is no restriction of domicile.
Q3. How many options, in terms of seats, are available for overseas Pakistanis?
Admission in public sector has 3 options:
1. Local Students
2. Local Self Finance
3. Foreign National
Q4. Can an Overseas Pakistani apply as a local student? Is there any other opportunity?
In Pakistani Medical Institutions, Overseas Pakistanis can avail more opportunities than any other type of student. In fact, they can apply against all the student categories if they fulfill certain criterion.
They can apply as:
1. A Local Pakistani Student against open merit/regular seats,
2. Local student against Self finance basis,
3. An overseas Pakistani (if reserved seats are available in the particular institution)
4. A Foreign National if holds foreign nationality as well.
Q5: When are the SAT-II and Entrance Test offered? How does a student apply?
SAT –II are the official tests offered by College Board. Schedule of the test and other details are given at their website www.collegeboard.com

Q6: When does the admission process start?
Admission schedule is different for every province, but usually it begins in June/July and ends in November. Applications are invited after advertisement through website and national newspapers.
Q7: How the merit is determined for admission under SFS?
Merit for MBBS/BDS and B.Sc (Engineering) will be determined as per the following formula:
SSC or IGCSE 10 %
HSSC or A-Levels40 %
Admission Test Score50 %
Merit for Pharm-D is 100 % in HSSC or equivalent qualification in the form of equivalence certificate issued by Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) Pakistan.
Note: Aggregate is the composition of O level, A level and Entry test(or SAT) scores.
Q8: When and how will I be informed about the decision of my selection under SFS?
The selected candidates will be informed via email and through offer letter posted at the mailing address. Moreover, the same information is also uploaded at the website.
Q9. If an Overseas Pakistani student applies as local student, does the institution accept the application same as that of local student or there is a difference?
The admission process will be the same as that of a local student. There is no difference. The student will be treated exactly as a local student and fee structure will also be the same. Admission application will be submitted to the institution directly before the deadline. The whole process will be dealt by the institution and there is no other authority or ministry involved in this process.
Q10. What is the admission process if a student is applying against overseas seats?
This may not be the same for students applying against the seats reserved for Overseas Pakistanis. Some of the institutions accept direct application submitted by the student whereas some institutions offer admissions to the students referred by different Governmental Organizations.
Q11. If a student is applying against the overseas Pakistani seat; does he need to take the entry test?
In all Medical Colleges, student applying against overseas seats has to take entry test.Overseas Pakistanis can also apply as a Foreign National if they fulfill the pre-requisites. In this particular situation they will have to follow the procedure as that of as prescribed by HEC for foreign nationals.
Q12. I am an Overseas Pakistani and does not possess any foreign nationality but I have a Permanent Resident Card. Can I apply for admission Under SFS?
No. If you don't have the foreign nationality of the country you are living in, you cannot apply for admission against seats reserved for foreign candidates. You can apply on open merit seats directly to the concerned institute, if you have a domicile of concerned province.
Q13. I want to apply for admission in a Private Medical/Dental College, do I still send my application to HEC?
No, HEC only process the admission in public sector medical colleges under Self Finance Scheme. For admission in a private medical/dental college you need to apply directly to the concerned college/institution.
Q14. I have done A-level or 12th Grade etc. How can I get my equivalence?
Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC) issues equivalence certificate to candidates who have passed A-Level or 12th Grade or any other examination equivalent to F.Sc (Pre-Medical/Engineering etc.) for recognition of their qualifications.
The equivalence certificate issued by the IBCC enables HEC to determine eligibility and prepare merit list for admission under SFS.

Q15. What is the medium of instructions in Pakistani educational institutions?
It is English all over the country.
Q16. Is MBBS the only choice in medical education in Pakistan?
No, there are 14 sub-fields available in Medical after FSc in Pakistan and every field is of utmost importance including MBBS.
10 degrees in 14 subjects at graduate level including Medicine (MBBS) Dentistry (BDS), Pharmacy (Pharm. D) and Nursing and 36 degrees in 118 subjects at postgraduate level are being offered in Pakistan.

MDCAT DETAILS: NUMS TEST
-Single MDCAT entry test conducted by NTS in all army sector universities in Pakistan and private sector universities in Islamabad.
-Sponsor University is NUMS.
-Syllabus for entry test is uploaded on NUMS website, (almost same as A level syllabus, however it is based on Punjab Board Text Books).
Note: No pass or fail is determined, admission is based on merit only for all above tests.
